When you point your camera at something to take a picture, whether it’s a landscape, portrait or still life you are ultimately taking a picture of light. This is the main medium of photography and how a photographer chooses to use that light will determine the tone and story of the picture. When it comes to shadows in photography what you are capturing is the absence of light and photographers use the tonal contrast of light and the absence of light to create a scene. Photography in Second Life works much the same way, the main difference is, in SL when you set your graphics to show good shadows you might crash your computer!
For my shot this week I decided to go for a boudoir theme, there is something inherently sexy about lounging in the shadows in your underwear. Luckily I have a really good computer so I can keep my graphics pretty high even on high lag sims but if I’m doing something that requires really detailed shadows I still prefer to work in my skybox studio where there is less lag and my computer doesn’t have to work so hard to produce the graphics I want, that and I’m not one to run around in public areas in my underpants!

Below are some shots from others that are doing the challenge along with me you can view more on our group Flickr page as well as click on the links provide below to check out their Flickr pages and blogs!!
The next challenge is ‘Food’. As always if anyone wants to join in feel free, if you do decide to join us you can share your work in our Flickr group! A full challenge list can be found here.
