High in the Sky: Photography Challenge Week 8

The theme for this week is “Sky”. This is one of those themes that I could come up with a number of ideas for a picture but trying to come up with words to describe it has been another matter. I’ve been able to think of a number of cliche phrases and bad dad jokes that involve things like ‘sky high’ and ‘high in the sky’ (insert favorite pot joke here…), but none of that really describes the theme, maybe because when I think of the sky I think more about what happens in the sky than the sky itself. People talk about a clear blue sky to describe optimal weather but in terms of sky it’s actually one the more boring states a sky can be in because it means literally nothing is going on in the sky, from a photographic perspective that is the definition of boring. So what this is really about is the things that happen high up in the sky that make the sky so interesting.

For my shot this week I was feeling a bit whimsical and wanted to do something light and fun. I’m not sure what is more unrealistic in this photo, a bicycle being ridden through the sky with balloons or riding a bicycle in high heels…
