As July comes to a close, we are wrapping up week five of the photography challenge. I have to say now that I’m a month in to this, I’m enjoying coming up with something to shoot each week and I’m enjoying even more getting to see what others have come up with. There are some really creative people out there and getting to interact with some of them is really awesome.
This weeks theme was “Night”. The main challenge with night photography whether you are in real life or Second Life is light. The main component of photography is light, how much light we use determines how our photograph will look and the less light there is the harder we have to work to make it look right. One of the tools I use in SL for photography is Lumipro which is a HUD driven lighting system that can be purchased from the Second Life Marketplace. This HUD allows me to control the amount of light, the direction of light and even the color of the light ao that I can create the look that I want in my photograph. I have found that it is well worth the purchase price.
For this shoot I decided for a gritty street vibe, kind of a punk rock assassin look, although I would think that to be a good assassin that you would want to more nondescript so you can get close to your target without anyone noticing and tight black spandex and purple hair is sure to get noticed. The sexy female assassin is a popular trope in Hollywood but I’m not sure how realistic it is. I remember watching the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron and wondering why Black Widows outfit was lined with LED lights, I would think that it would be hard to be a deadly, stealthy killing machine dressed like a rave. I would love to hear what others think about what qualities make for a good assassin.

Below are some shots from others that are doing the challenge along with me you can view more on our group Flickr page.
Next weeks challenge is “Water”. As always if anyone wants to join in feel free, if you do decide to join us you can share your work in our Flickr group! A full challenge list can be found here.
